Getting Started

This page walks you through your first few minutes in WorthSync.

1. Create your account

  1. Open WorthSync and choose Sign up.
  2. Register with your email (and any sign-in methods your instance enables). Authentication is handled by Clerk — WorthSync never stores your password.
  3. After verifying your email, you land directly on your dashboard.

You always have a household. The moment you sign up, WorthSync creates a personal household for you (named "{First Name}'s Household"). You don’t need to create anything to start — and you can rename it or invite others later.

2. Install it as an app (optional)

WorthSync is a Progressive Web App, so you can install it like a native app:

  • iOS (Safari): Share → Add to Home Screen.
  • Android (Chrome): menu → Install app / Add to Home Screen.
  • Desktop (Chrome/Edge): the install icon in the address bar.

There are also native iOS and Android builds where available.

3. Add your first account

  1. Go to Accounts.
  2. Choose Add account and fill in:
    • Name (e.g. “Everyday Checking”).
    • Institution (e.g. “Acme Bank”).
    • Category (e.g. Cash, Investments, Real Estate, Credit Card, Loan). Categories are seeded for you and fully editable.
    • Visibility — start with Private; you can share later.
  3. Save. The account now appears in your list, ready for balances.

Liability accounts (credit cards, loans, mortgages) can carry extra details like APR, principal, minimum payment, and payoff date to power the Debt Center.

4. Record a snapshot (a dated balance)

A snapshot is the heart of WorthSync — a balance on a specific date.

  1. Open the Entry screen (or an account’s detail view).
  2. Pick a date and enter the balance for one or more accounts.
  3. Save. That point now appears on your trend lines.

Tips:

  • Backfill history. Enter past balances (old statements) to get a richer trend immediately.
  • Bulk/grid entry. Update several accounts for the same date at once.
  • Offline-friendly. Entries made offline are queued and sync when you reconnect.
  • Auto-carry-forward. Accounts can optionally roll their last balance forward so a flat account doesn’t create gaps.

5. Read your dashboard

Once you have a few snapshots, the dashboard shows your total net worth, the change vs. the previous period, sparklines, top movers, and allocation. Use the My / Shared / Combined toggle at the top to switch views.

Under Settings → Reminders, choose a cadence (weekly, biweekly, or monthly), a day, and your timezone. WorthSync will nudge you by email (and push, if enabled) so your history stays current.
